THE CAMP PURPLE- MUKTESHWAR

Fifty kilometers from Nainital and Saat-tal, perched on Mukteshwar ridge, surrounded by apple and peach orchards is a camp inspired by a colour that blends perfectly with nature.
Watching the sunset (or rise) over Himalayan peaks, the distant graded mountains and the morning mist will all help explain why we couldn’t have given it any other name.
Mukteshwar (7290 Ft) is one of the highest ridges in the middle Himalayas, hence it serves as a great vantage point for panoramic views of the snow covered mountains (including Nanda Devi - one of the highest Indian peaks)
Mukteshwar literally means 'Abode of Shiva' and has a Shiva temple at the highest hill on the ridge. In the temple complex is an ashram run by an old babaji, who has large following from different parts of the world.

ACCOMODATION

Twin/triple sharing basis in American Safari Tents along with mats and sleeping bags ensure a comfortable stay on the meadows. Hygienic toilet tents with w/c and running water flushes are also provided. Lounging chairs, and campfire stools blending with the natural environment are interspersed at the campsite. Maintaining the natural jungle environment no electricity is used at the camp. Kerosene/solar lanterns are used to light the camp adequately during the night.

RESTAURANTS & BAR

The camp kitchen provides wholesome and fresh Indian and Continental cuisine along-with local delicacies. Tea/coffee/juices are served at regular intervals. The camp has the local supply of filtered water from the spring which is again filtered in the camp with zero B filter.

WEATHER & CLOTHING

Camp Purple is open from August – November and from April - June. The days are bright and sunny while the nights are cold.
Functional and comfortable clothing with adequate winter wear, a shawl, walking shoes, an umbrella and a torch are essential to maximize your camping experience.

GETTING THERE

By Train: There is an overnight train from the Old Delhi Railway Station (Ranikhet Express), which leaves Old Delhi at 10:45 pm and arrives Kathgodam at 6:15 am from where Jeeps can be hired to go to the Camp Purple, Mukteshwar. Return is likewise in an overnight train reaching Delhi at 4.30 am.
By Road: Camp Purple is 80 km from Kathgodam (350 km from Delhi – 9 hrs). From Kathdodam, go to Bhowali from where you have to turn right onto the road leading to Ramgarh. About 43 km from Bhowali, 2 km before Mukteshwar, lies Sargakhet. Camp Purple is on the right side of the road and easily recognizable.

LIST OF THING TO BE CARRIED

• Basic comfortable clothing like shorts,
   T-shirts, Track-pants, Sweat-shirts, etc.
• Personnel toiletries and towel.
• One warm sweater and a warm (pref. rain
   proof) jacket or an umbrella.
• Gloves/mufflers/warm cap may be carried
   for evenings.
• Comfortable walking/trekking shoes and
   slippers for lounging at camp and near
   water areas.
• Water bottle.
• Torch with extra pair of batteries (mandatory).
• One writing pad and a pen.
• Caps, binoculars, sunglasses etc. are recommended.
• One small Backpack / daypack to carry stuff while on short walks.
• Books on wildlife, plants and birds are helpful for the nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
• For the train journey carry a blanket (mandatory for Nov. –March). At the camp all
   bedding/sleeping bags are provided.
• Travel light and pack everything in a rucksack / handbag which can easily be carried by you.
