About Nagpur
Nagpur which appears as one single city is in fact a twin city strategically planned by different rulers in different periods. The present Nagpur was occupied by 12 small hamlets known by the name of "Rajpur Barsa" till 1686 A.D. The inhabitants were primarily Gonds and Adivasis in the wooden fort on the hills at Deogarh about 30 miles from present Chhindwara.
Deogarh kingdom included whole a Modern Chhindwara, Nagpur, Bhandara, Seoni, Balaghat, Betul and Hoshangabad Districts upto Chanda in the South. The Deogarh kingdom gained prominence and enjoyed power for nearly 200 years from Raja Jatba's period till the conquest by Raghuji Bhonsla. The Gond Rajas moved from Haryagarh to Deogarh and to Nagpur as their political power slowly flourished.
CLIMATE
Nagpur Sonegaon is situated in the state of Maharashtra. Summer are quiet warm and although temperature might rise to about 40 'C the winds keep on flowing continuously. During winters the average temperature drops to about 12 'C. Best time to visit is during the months of October to March.
PLACES OF ATTRACTION IN NAGPUR
• Adasa : Adasa is a tiny village in the district of Nagpur, lies at a distance of 45 kms from Nagpur, a village that houses a plethora of ancient and magnificent temples. The Ganapati temple that exists here lodges an idol of the Lord, which is a single stone, constructed to facilitate easy worship for the devotees.
• Khekranala : Khekranala is situated at a distance of 55 kms from the main city of Nagpur. Khekranala is where a beautiful dam is located. It is situated in the Khapra range forest. The land displays a fine harmony of lush greenery and captivating surroundings along with healthy environment.
• Markanda : Markanda, a small parish, located on the left bank of Vainganga river, is a famous religious site. The land gets its name from Sage Markandeya. A cluster of temples of temples exists here housing Shiva Linga, which Markandeya is believed to have worshipped. The cluster has an approximate 24 temples and the architecture has strong resemblance to Khajurao Temples.
• Dhapewada : Dhapewada is situated on the bank of Chandrabhaga river. The town possesses a notable temple of Vithoba, overlooking the river. It was built by Umaji Aba, Diwan to Raja Baji Rao Bhonsla. Dhapewada is being known as Vidarbha's Pandharpur.
• Ramtek : Called so because it was graced by the holy feet of Lord Rama and Sita, his consort. It was here that the prolific Sanskrit poet Kalidas wrote his epic Maghdootam. Besides the Shri Ram Temple and the Kalidas Memorial, there is Ramgiri hill, Ramsagar lake.
• Nagardhan : Nagardhan is an old town and was formerly of considerable importance as it gave its name to the district. It was founded by a Suryawanshi King, but Mr. Hiralal supposes it to have been established by King named Nandvardhan belonging to the Shail Dynasty. There is a fort said to have been built by the Bhonslas with brick walls.
