PLACES TO VISIT AROUND NAINITAL

Naini / China Peak: The highest peak in the region, 5 km from Nainital, is about 2.5 hrs.walk. From the top (2610 m) there are stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and Nainital town. One can either trek or go on horse back.

Snow View: There is a ropeway from Mallital end to this peak (2270 m), a popular vantage point offering a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges.

Dorothy Seat / Tiffin top: A 4 km walk, 1.5 hrs to the west, brings one to this point, which offers an excellent view of Nainital and surroundings. From here, a 45 min. picturesque trek leads one to Land's end (2100 m) through a forest of oak, deodar and pine.This is a cliff, offering an excellent aerial view of Khurpa Tal lake and terraced fields. It is accessible by horse also.

Hanumangarhi: This is temple, 3 km south of Nainital, and offers a very picturesque view of the setting sun.

Khurpa Tal: 12 km from Nainital, this is a small lake, a paradise for anglers.

Kilbury: 12 km from Nainital, this is an ideal place for a picnic. It is part of a forest reserve and is rich in flora and wildlife.

Himalayan Darshan: On the way to Kilbury, this spot offers a magnificient view of the Himalayan ranges.

Naina Devi Temple: This the temple from which this hill resort derives it's name, and is situated at Mallital, on the lake side.

EXCURSIONS

Mukhteshwar:52 km from Nainital, Mukhteshwar (2286m) set atop a high ridge, is a beautiful Himalayan resort. Surrounded by fruit orchads and thick coniferous forests, it provides a majestic view of the Himalayas. It is about one and half hour of drive from Nainital.

Corbett National Park: One of the finest tiger habitats in India, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, spread over an area of 520 s.q.km., the park is named after the famous Jim Corbett. It is 115 km from Nainital and takes about 2 hrs to drive by car.

Ranikhet: At a altitude of 1829m and 61 km from Nainital, Ranikhet offers an excellent Himalayan view, along with fruit orchads and golf links.

Almora:66 km from Nainital, at an altitude of 1650m, this is one of the oldest towns of Kumaon and was once upon a time the capital of the Chand dynasty.
